The Amazing Lola Project

I'm working on a project for my grandmother, Mrs. Edith Arboleda-Raya.

At 81 years young, she's still a sharp as ever. So sharp, she still holds office at the House of Representatives as consultant to Hon. Herminia B. Roman of the 1st District of Bataan.

I'm hoping someone in media (either print or TV) could do a piece on her and perhaps other senior citizens who're still actively contributing to society despite their advanced years.

I was thinking the piece could be in time for Grandparent's Day in September. I know it's pretty early, but I figured the earlier I get this notice out, the more chances of finding promising leads.

I'd be really, really grateful if you or someone you know can make this possible.

Please send a private message or email charis_raya@yahoo.com if you can help.

Maraming salamat!

World of Advertising (Part 2 - Wheeee!!!)

So there I was, minding my own business when out of the corner of my eye, my RSS reader blinked.

There appeared three little words of anticipation.

Creative.

Beef.
Update.

World of Advertising has a 2.0 version! Oh joy!

If you haven't seen part 1, go here first:

For those who've seen that one, here's the latest addition.

Oh, out of all the new characters, this'll be my guy.

To my editors (you know who you are), I tip my hat off to you. (That is, if I was wearing one.)

For the Advertising / Creative Agency People Out There

This is the game for you.

I wish I could say that I CAN'T relate to this or that my experience has been anything but what's been described.

But the opposite, unfortunately, is more true.
And all we can do is rant...

Read and be amused my ad / creative agency friends.

'Cause short of a revolution, this is truly our world.

And I'd probably choose this character:

Breaking the Windows

Let's pretend I'm the daring kind of person.

And I'm SOOO daring, I actually suggested we venture out and (GASP!)

NOT
use
Windows OS.

So quite soon there'll be a little penguin in the office.

I just need to figure out which flavor to chose.

Fedora?

Open Suse?

or Ubuntu?

Suggestments?

A bit of musical observation

I've a theory that whatever music you listened to when you were in highschool will be your definitive genre. In my case, that was grunge and the post-metal rock movement as embodied by Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and later on Collective Soul.

Lately I've been going through a 90s rock phase and even before AI winner David Cook brought this song back into the spotlight, the song had been circulating in my playlist of late.

I noticed, though, how "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls sounds so much like "The World I Know" by Collective Soul especially with the violin interlude.

See and listen.

I've got a dyslexic...

...what's it called?

Okay, context:
I'm set for a presentation at Ayala Avenue. The weather, while it has been kind in that it decided not to drown Metro Manila in rain, was nevertheless feeling puckish with an on-again-off-again rainshower. Needless to say, it was vera, vera, vera muggy.

I KNEW I checked the address. I'm supposed to go to 6748 Ayala Ave. So I figured I'd get off at the Ayala Station and it'll be a short skip and a hop to the building.

I figured wrong.

When I got there, there was no such building. So I checked:

6784 Ayala Avenue.

Fuhreakin' heck.

That's on the other side of Ayala.

In humid weather.

Carrying a prehistoric laptop that weighs a ton.

In heels.

==========

It's times like those you really, really, really wish someone else was with you so you can fabricate some lame excuse why it's their fault and not yours.

No such luck.

Me es sa solo.

It's also funny how pride and ego kicks in at the STUPID-EST of times. Here I was kicking myself for reading an address wrong and complaining about how far off I was.

And instead of taking a bus that would've saved me time and effort.

I decided to walk.

All.

The.

F-ing.

Way.

So while I started from 6750 all fresh and prim and proper like this:

By the time I hit 6780, I was thoroughly EXPIRED like this:

I would've said that I needed glasses, but then I already wear those.

So what else is left to do but to brace myself for yet more shenanigans like these?

I COULD make it a habit to double check stuff before I actually do something.

But then I'd have less to blog about.

And we can't have THAT, can we?
