Breaking the Windows

Let's pretend I'm the daring kind of person.

And I'm SOOO daring, I actually suggested we venture out and (GASP!)

NOT
use
Windows OS.

So quite soon there'll be a little penguin in the office.

I just need to figure out which flavor to chose.

Fedora?

Open Suse?

or Ubuntu?

Suggestments?

A bit of musical observation

I've a theory that whatever music you listened to when you were in highschool will be your definitive genre. In my case, that was grunge and the post-metal rock movement as embodied by Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and later on Collective Soul.

Lately I've been going through a 90s rock phase and even before AI winner David Cook brought this song back into the spotlight, the song had been circulating in my playlist of late.

I noticed, though, how "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls sounds so much like "The World I Know" by Collective Soul especially with the violin interlude.

See and listen.

I've got a dyslexic...

...what's it called?

Okay, context:
I'm set for a presentation at Ayala Avenue. The weather, while it has been kind in that it decided not to drown Metro Manila in rain, was nevertheless feeling puckish with an on-again-off-again rainshower. Needless to say, it was vera, vera, vera muggy.

I KNEW I checked the address. I'm supposed to go to 6748 Ayala Ave. So I figured I'd get off at the Ayala Station and it'll be a short skip and a hop to the building.

I figured wrong.

When I got there, there was no such building. So I checked:

6784 Ayala Avenue.

Fuhreakin' heck.

That's on the other side of Ayala.

In humid weather.

Carrying a prehistoric laptop that weighs a ton.

In heels.

==========

It's times like those you really, really, really wish someone else was with you so you can fabricate some lame excuse why it's their fault and not yours.

No such luck.

Me es sa solo.

It's also funny how pride and ego kicks in at the STUPID-EST of times. Here I was kicking myself for reading an address wrong and complaining about how far off I was.

And instead of taking a bus that would've saved me time and effort.

I decided to walk.

All.

The.

F-ing.

Way.

So while I started from 6750 all fresh and prim and proper like this:

By the time I hit 6780, I was thoroughly EXPIRED like this:

I would've said that I needed glasses, but then I already wear those.

So what else is left to do but to brace myself for yet more shenanigans like these?

I COULD make it a habit to double check stuff before I actually do something.

But then I'd have less to blog about.

And we can't have THAT, can we?

It's THAT time of the year...

...when little (and not so little kids) go to the store and buy new school supplies.

I found myself having to go to National Bookstore this morning.
It was a quick chore: Buy one item, pay for it, then getting on with my normal life.

Or so I thought.

I knew it was a mistake to dwell in the specialty paper section.

But. I. couldn't. help. it.

All it took was one look at those packs of embossed boards and I fell into the school supply blackhole.

Estimated shopping time: 5 minutes
Actual time spent: 1 hour and 15 minutes

Most women spend their window shopping time at boutiques and malls. They can lose track of time looking through shoes, dresses, bags and all sorts of accessory knick-knacks.

I, on the other hand, could care less about shoes and dresses.
My big vice are school supplies followed by home improvement stuff as a close second.

The way some girls get excited about a new fashion line is the same enthusiasm I get over the newest stationery items from 3M or Stradmore.

Say, for example, there's now COLORED plastic cover. The same transparent (& boring) plastic sheets we used to cover our textbooks and notebooks now come in fun colors of red, blue, green and yellow! (Kids today never had it so good...)

There's also a line of rabbit-ear paper clips that come in every imaginable shape. From apples to zebras, they've got it!

I almost bought this huge, oversized (can you say redundant?) paper clip (about 6 inches wide) with the words "BIG CLIP" on it. I'm guessing the manufacturer wanted to make it clear just what the item was in case you haven't seen a paper clip since 1955.

And let's not even get started on glue!

As I write this, I'm only starting to realize the depth of my geek-iness.
Oh well. I suppose things could be worse.

I could start obssessing about bookends.

Oh wait. I already do.

Crap.

Inner Debate

(Work in progress, folks. Feel free to put in your two cents if the mood strikes you.)

Resolved:
Self-imposed boundaries are not only necessary, they are also beneficial.

Government:
Self-imposed boundaries allow for an individual to define his standards for action, which in turn are defined by his standards of morality. Without boundaries, a person finds himself without principles to stand by making him ineffectual to his own person and to his society.

Opposition:
Thinking that boundaries are necessary and even beneficial is what breeds closed-mindedness and biases. The very things that result to bigotry, racism and other evils that delineate one group from another. Boundaries only serve to limit possibilities, and to not fully explore such possibilities robs man of his full potential which in turn deprives society as a whole.
